ICA Creation (2018)

Stop-Motion & Model Making

During my time at university, I concentrated on developing my skills as a stop-motion animator/ model maker.

I gained experience of working in a team to produce animated films.

Please see my showreel for a sample of my stop-motion animation.

In my final year of university, I created a business card. Since I was specialising in Model Making at the time, I decided to create a model of my own head to really personalise it.

I went on to work for a Prop-Making company for 8 months in 2018 as a sculptor / prop maker and workshop assistant.

For 8 months I worked as a workshop assistant for ICA Creation in Penryn, Cornwall, a Prop-Making company.

I learned to sculpt large models from polystyrene, and to coat and decorate them. As the models we built were all custom-ordered, the process often varied from project to project.

Often the models would contain a wooden frame, which gave me a solid understanding of woodwork and how to use many tools associated with it.

I learned to use an airbrush for decorating the models, and frequently used a variety of other materials such as silicone for casting smaller models, as well as working with polyurea, fibreglass, polyurethane and epoxy resin among others.

I also had some input in the design of certain models, for which I made use of my drawing skills.

Third year Animation - Win the Game (2013)

.

In my third year studying at the Arts University Bournemouth, I had to work as part of a team to produce an animated film.

I worked as animator and model maker for "Win the Game", an experimental stop-motion film that used a rostrum to position a camera facing down on the characters and sets.

I was responsible for creating explosions out of plasticine and foil, fire effects made from paper, many different-sized models of a robot character named Carl Smith, and much more.

The project gave me extremely helpful insight on the production of an animated film, while allowing me to experiment with stop-motion in many different ways.

Personal Animation Projects (2009/10)

I created these animations during my A-Levels while studying Art & Design. These small projects were what made me want to study animation at university.

I created storyboards, built the sets, designed and constructed the characters and animated these myself.
